Charlottesville, VA Two weeks after setting the school tournament scoring record, the Virginia women’s golf team, ranked No. 3 by Golfstat and No. 5 by Golfweek, returns to the links this weekend for Georgia’s 37th annual Liz Murphey Collegiate Classic held at the University of Georgia Golf Course from Friday-Sunday.

The 18-team field includes a dozen teams ranked in Golfweek’s top-25, including seven of the current top-10 teams in the nation.

The field includes Alabama, Arkansas, Auburn, Coastal Carolina, Florida State, Kansas, Kentucky, Kent State, LSU, Michigan State, Oklahoma State, Mississippi, Mississippi State, North Carolina, Ohio State and Wake Forest.

Virginia’s lineup features Whitney Neuhauser, Calle Nielson, Jennie Arseneault, Lene Krog and Kristen Simpson. Joy Kim will play as a non-scoring individual.

In the team’s last outing, Nielson tied for first place at the LSU Golf Classic, shooting 7-under 209. The Cavaliers tied the single-round low scoring record (284) during the tournament’s final day and reset the 54-hole scoring mark (856) by 16 strokes on the way to winning the team title.

The list of teams and individuals who have competed in the Liz Murphey reads like a “Who’s Who” of women’s golf, headlined by LPGA Hall of Famers Beth Daniel, Betsy King and Julie Inkster. Georgia is the defending team champion after winning its 13th Liz Murphey title last spring. Virginia placed 10th led by Nielson’s fifth-place effort.

Tee times will begin at 9 a.m. on each day. Teams will go off in waves from No. 1 and No. 10 on Friday and Saturday. On Sunday, competition will begin with a shotgun start. Live scoring for the tournament will be available at Golfstat.com.
