Virginia Hosts Duke in ACC Tilt

CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. The No. 9 Virginia women’s lacrosse team will host No. 4 Duke on Saturday at 3:30 p.m. The game will be the second in a doubleheader with the men’s lacrosse team at Klckner Stadium. The Cavaliers are coming off a much-needed win over No. 19 James Madison on Tuesday, defeating the Dukes 18-9 and bumping their record to 7-3. The Blue Devils are coming off an 11-1 win over Canisius, bringing a record of 8-2 into the contest. In Atlantic Coast Conference play, Virginia is 1-2, while Duke is 1-1. Both teams defeated Virginia Tech, but fell to Maryland.

Virginia is led by senior All-American Blair Weymouth’s 29 goals and senior All-American Ashley McCulloch’s 21 assists and 44 points. Junior Kaitlin Duff leads the midfield with 22 ground balls and 22 caused turnovers, while junior Brittany Kalkstein has won 39 draw controls.

Duke is led by Carolyn Davis, who has 33 goals. Caroline Cryer holds team-high marks of 18 assists and 27 draw controls. In goal for the Blue Devils, Kim Imbesi is allowing 10.27 goals per game, while scooping up 33 ground balls.

Virginia holds a 17-6 all-time record against Duke. The two have faced at least twice in every year since 2001, with Duke earning the regular season victories and the Cavaliers holding the post season wins prior to 2008. Last year was the first year in which Virginia won both the regular season and post-season battles.

The Cavaliers are currently on a three-game win streak over the Blue Devils, including a come-from-behind, 10-9 win in the semifinals of the ACC Tournament last season, en route to the conference title.

Following the weekend, Virginia will kick off a four-game road swing in Norfolk, Va. The Cavaliers will face Old Dominion on Wednesday, with opening draw scheduled for 3 p.m.
