COLLEGE STATION, Texas The Virginia men’s swimming team continued competition Saturday in the 2009 NCAA Championships at the Student Rec Center Natatorium on Texas A&M’s campus. Heading into the final session of competition, Virginia stands in ninth place in the team standings with 101 points.

The Cavaliers qualified two swimmers into consolation finals tonight in addition to the 400 freestyle relay team of Scot Robison, Peter Geissinger, John Azar and Matt McLean. The quartet placed 12th in the prelims with a time of 2:53.06.

Robison will compete in the consolation finals of the 100 freestyle after clocking a time of 42.77. That mark, which put him 15th in the morning session, broke his own conference and school record of 42.89 set at the ACC Championships last month.

Senior Ryan Hurley will join Robison in the consolation finals after placing 11th in the 200 breaststroke with a time of 1:54.39.

Fellow senior Pat Reams earned an 18th-place finish in the 200 butterfly with a time of 1:43.82, while classmate Lee Robertson was 23rd (1:44.22) overall.

Finals are set to begin at 7 p.m. tonight (8 p.m. eastern). The 1650 freestyle will kick off the last session of the championships, as four Cavaliers are scheduled to swim in that event: McLean, John Snawerdt, Taylor Smith and Darren Ankosko.
