CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. – The No. 9 Virginia women’s lacrosse team heads east to face its fifth in-state opponent this season in Old Dominion on Wednesday. In the 32 meetings since 1980, the Cavaliers have never lost to the Monarchs, with this season’s contest scheduled for 3 p.m. at Foreman Field in Norfolk, Va. The Cavaliers (7-4) are coming off a 13-12 loss to No. 5 Duke on Saturday, in which the Blue Devils scored with 11 seconds remaining to escape with the win. Senior All-American Jenny Hauser led Virginia in the contest, scoring a career-high six goals.
On the season, Virginia is led by senior All-American Ashley McCulloch’s 47 points. Senior All-American Blair Weymouth leads the team in goals, scoring 31, while junior Brittany Kalkstein has won 44 draw controls a mark that leads the ACC and ranks her fourth nationally. Junior Kaitlin Duff leads the midfield with 24 caused turnovers and 23 ground balls, while redshirt junior Lauren Benner is allowing 9.92 goals per game.
For Old Dominion (5-2), who is coming off an 11-10 double-overtime loss to Virginia Tech over the weekend, Kelly Kimener leads the Monarchs with 28 points and 22 draw controls. Saratu Dodo has 11 caused turnovers for ODU, while Sarah Geary is allowing 10.58 goals per game.
The Cavaliers will remain on the road following the midweek match-up, heading to Massachusetts to face Boston College on Saturday and Harvard on Sunday. Both games are scheduled to begin at 1 p.m.
