CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. – The No. 9 Virginia women’s lacrosse team heads to Massachusetts to face Boston College and Harvard this weekend. The Cavaliers will face the Eagles in Chestnut Hill at 1 p.m. on Saturday, while Harvard will host Virginia in Cambridge at 1 p.m. on Sunday. Virginia (7-5, 1-3 ACC) is coming off a heartbreaking, 13-10, loss to Old Dominion on Tuesday. Seniors Blair Weymouth and Ashley McCulloch lead the Cavaliers’ attack, with Weymouth tallying 34 goals and McCulloch dishing out 25 assists to go with 49 points. Kaitlin Duff leads the team with 27 caused turnovers and 26 ground balls, while Brittany Kalkstein made her way into Virginia’s top-five single-season draw controls category, winning four on Tuesday to push her total to 48 this year.
Boston College (7-4, 0-3 ACC) is led by Jenna McCabe’s 29 goals and 16 assists. Maura Mahoney leads the team with 30 draws, while Margot Spatola had 25 ground balls. In goal, Katie Monaghan is allowing 9.72 goals per game, while stopping .505 percent of shots faced.
In the all-time series between the Cavaliers and Eagles, Virginia holds an unblemished 7-0 record. The Cavaliers defeated Boston College 12-4 last season at home.
Harvard (4-5) will host Penn on Saturday before facing Virginia on Sunday. The Crimson are led by Jess Halpern, who has tallied 32 goals, while Tyler Petropulos leads the way with 23 draw controls, 23 ground balls and 12 caused turnovers.
Virginia has only faced Harvard twice, winning both contests. The last meeting was in 1993, when Virginia squeaked by the Crimson, 11-10, in overtime of the NCAA semifinals, en route to the program’s third national championship.
Following the weekend, the Cavaliers will take a week off before heading to Fairfax, Va., to face George Mason on Tuesday, April 14. Game time is scheduled for 7 p.m.
