Men’s Tennis Hosts Duke and North Carolina This Weekend

CHARLOTTESVILLE — The top ranked Virginia men’s tennis team concludes the home portion of its 2009 schedule with a pair of ACC matches this weekend at the Snyder Tennis Center (weather permitting). The Cavaliers welcome Duke on Friday at 3 p.m. and North Carolina Sunday at 1 p.m.

The Cavaliers (22-0, 7-0 ACC) are coming off a pair of 4-3 wins at Miami and Florida State. Virginia is No. 1 in this week’s ITA team rankings and has five singles players and two doubles teams ranked in the latest ITA individual rankings. In singles, Dominic Inglot (London, England) is No. 17, Michael Shabaz (Fairfax, Va.) is No. 20, Sanam Singh (Chandigarh, India) is No. 25, Houston Barrick (Brentwood, Tenn.) is No. 73, and Lee Singer (Laguna Niguel, Calif,) is No. 82. The doubles team of Barrick and Singh are No. 6, while Inglot and Shabaz are No. 14.

Sunday’s match will be senior day for three Cavalier fourth-years. Inglot, Nick Meros (Tallahassee, Fla.) and Leif Sunderland (Malibu, Calif.) will be honored.

Admission to all men’s and women’s tennis matches is free.
