Charlottesville, VA The Atlantic Coast Conference announced today Virginia sophomore Calle Nielson is the Women’s Golfer of the Month for March.
Nielson tied for first place at the LSU Classic in Baton Rouge, La., and helped guide Virginia to its second tournament championship in the program’s history. She carded rounds of 67-71-71 (209), 7-under par good for her best collegiate tournament score and the second best in Virginia history. Her opening round 67 was her career best and helped the Cavaliers set a school record for tournament scoring (856), bettering the previous mark by 16 shots.
Nielson finished tied for fifth at the rain-shortened, 18-hole Liz Murphey Classic in Athens, Ga., with a 74.
Through seven tournaments this season Nielson sports a 73.67 stroke average and has finished in the top-10 three times.
Virginia competes at the Bryan National Collegiate in Greensboro April 3-5.
