CHARLOTTESVILLE, VA Danny Glading is one of 10 student-athletes named a finalist for the 2009 Lowe’s Senior CLASS Award in men’s lacrosse.

The finalists were chosen from a list of 30 candidates based on personal qualities that define a complete student-athlete. These four primary areas of criteria include: classroom, community, character and competition.

The preseason Player of the Year by Lacrosse magazine, Glading has been one of Virginia’s key performers this year as the Cavaliers have been ranked No. 1 in the polls for most of the season. A four-year starter on attack, he has scored 18 goals and added 22 assists for the undefeated Cavaliers this spring. On the field he is a two-time All-American and All-ACC performer. In the classroom, the economics major from Bethesda, Md., has been named to the All-ACC Academic men’s lacrosse team and to the ACC Honor Roll during his career.

An acronym for Celebrating Loyalty and Achievement for Staying in School, the Lowe’s Senior CLASS Award has developed into one of the nation’s premier tributes to college seniors. Cornell goaltender Matt McMonagle won the inaugural lacrosse division award in 2007 and Syracuse attackman Mike Leveille won the award last season.

Joining Glading as finalists are: Matt Abbott, Syracuse; Jordan Burke, Brown; Michael Colleluori, Hofstra; Brandon Corp, Colgate; Joel Dalgarno, Ohio State; Ryan Hoff, Notre Dame; Max Seibald, Cornell; Andy Tormey, Navy; Grant Zimmerman, North Carolina.

These 10 names will be placed on the Lowe’s Senior CLASS Award men’s lacrosse ballot for a nationwide vote that concludes May 7.

Cavalier fans can vote for Glading at the award’s official website www.seniorclassaward.com. Fan voting will be combined with votes from coaches, media and sponsors to determine the recipient of the award.

The 2009 award winner will be announced and presented with the prestigious Lowe’s Senior CLASS Award trophy during festivities surrounding the NCAA Men’s Lacrosse Championships, scheduled for May 23-25. The Lowe’s All-Senior All-America Team, based on final results of the balloting, will also be recognized.
