Charlottesville, VA The Virginia men’s golf team plays the first of three tournaments this month starting this weekend at the River Landing Intercollegiate hosted by NC State. The tournament features 36 holes on Friday and 18 on Saturday. It will be contested at the par 72, 6,942-yard River Landing Country Club in Wallace, N.C.
This year’s field features 15 teams, with five currently ranking in the top-50 according to Golfstat’s rankings: NC State (15), Wake Forest (29), Virginia (44), Duke (45) and Michigan (46). Rounding out the field is East Carolina, Hartford, Houston, Kansas, Maryland, Memphis, North Carolina, Rice, Tulsa, and Virginia Tech.
Virginia’s lineup includes Kyle Stough, Conrad Von Borsig, Bruce Woodall, Ben Kohles and Will Collins. Amory Davis will compete as a non-scoring individual. Collins currently leads UVa with a 72.35 stroke average through eight tournaments. He has been the Cavaliers’ top finisher in three of the team’s four spring outings. All of those finishes have been top-five.
The Cavaliers rise in the rankings has been sparked by stellar play this spring. Virginia has placed first or second in three of its last four outings, including a second-place showing the last time out at the Hootie @ Bulls Bay tournament. In addition to their top-50 standing in the Golfstat poll, the Cavaliers are up to No. 42 in the latest Golfweek rankings.
Play begins Friday at 7:30 a.m. on the 1st and 10th tees, and the afternoon round is set to start around 12:30 p.m. Live scoring will be online at Golfstat.com.
