CHARLOTTESVILLE The 13th-ranked Virginia rowing team hosts No. 19 Tennessee and Central Florida on Saturday, April 11. Competition on Lake Monticello begins at 9 a.m., with the Cavaliers taking on the Lady Vols in the morning session and then UCF in the afternoon session, beginning at noon.
Virginia’s novices will race against Clemson’s novices in the morning session due to Tennessee not competing in the novice events.
Virginia is looking to bounce back from last weekend’s regatta against No. 16 Ohio State in which it dropped three varsity races (Varsity Eight, Second Varsity Eight, Varsity Four) to the Buckeyes.
Virginia’s novices had two victories in the Novice Eight and Second Novice Eight vs. Ohio State, while the Second Varsity Four and Third Varsity Four also came up with wins.
Virginia began the season sweeping Bucknell on March 20, and followed up that performance with a strong showing at the Pac-10 Challenge in Redwood Shores, Calif., on March 28-29. The Second Varsity Eight has been named the ACC’s Crew of the Week once this season, following a 3-0 weekend at the Pac-10 Challenge with victories over then-No. 5 California, UCLA and then-No. 3 Stanford. On the season, the 2V8 is 4-1 overall.
Following Saturday’s races, Virginia will begin its quest for its 10th-straight ACC Championship. The conference champion will be crowned on Monday, April 20, in Oak Ridge, Tenn.
