Cavaliers Regionally Qualify Three in Mile at Lou Onesty Invite

CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. The men’s invitational mile highlighted the opening day of the annual Lou Onesty/Milton Abramson Invitational at Lannigan Field on Friday, with senior Andrew Jesien, sophomore Emil Heineking and freshman Sintayehu Taye, almost breaking the sub-four minute mile mark and claiming NCAA Regional Qualifying times.

In his season debut, Jesien – a two-time ACC Champion – won the event in 4:02.18, while Heineking – a two-time cross country All-American – finished runner-up in 4:04.80 and Taye – an indoor All-American this winter – claimed third in 4:05.38.

In field events, junior Meghan Briggs won the javelin, throwing 155’ 6”, while freshman Indira Morton finished third with a mark of 133’ 5”.

In the hammer throw, senior Alexa Manning finished third with a toss of 156’ 11” and freshman Erin Wykoff threw a personal-best 153’ 3” to mark the program’s all-time eighth-best throw.

The Cavaliers will return to action tomorrow to conclude the invitational. Field events begin at 10 a.m., with track events kicking off at 10:30 a.m.
