CARY, N.C. Four members of the Virginia men’s tennis team were named to the All-ACC Men’s Tennis Team conference officials announced Thursday in conjunction with the start of the ACC Tennis Tournament. The Cavaliers led all schools with four players on the 18-player squad as Houston Barrick (Brentwood, Tenn.), Dominic Inglot (London, England), Michael Shabaz (Fairfax, Va.) and Sanam Singh (Chandigarh, India) were honored, as was Brian Boland as ACC Coach of the Year.
Boland was named ACC Coach of the Year for the second consecutive season and for the third time in his career. He led the Cavaliers to a 26-0 overall record, including an 11-0 mark in the ACC. It was the second consecutive season Virginia went undefeated through the regular season and the third consecutive year the Cavaliers had a perfect ACC regular season record.
Barrick earned All-ACC honors for the first time in his career. Ranked No. 83 nationally in singles, he is 34-6 overall in singles this season, including a 21-2 dual match record. In doubles, he and Singh are ranked No. 4 nationally and have a 35-6 overall record.
Inglot also earned All-ACC honors for the first time in his career. The nation’s No. 17 ranked player, he is 21-12 overall and 14-8 at No. 1 singles this season. In doubles, he and Shabaz are 31-6 this year and are ranked No. 13 nationally.
Shabaz earned his first All-ACC recognition after posting a 33-8 overall singles record, including a 19-3 dual match record. He is currently ranked No. 25 nationally in singles and No. 13 in doubles with Inglot.
Singh earned All-ACC honors for the second consecutive season. This year he is 33-5 in singles, including a 22-2 dual match record. He is currently ranked No. 27 in singles and No. 4 in doubles with Barrick.
The top-seeded Cavaliers look for their third consecutive ACC Tournament title this week at the Cary Tennis Park. After a first round bye, Virginia will meet either North Carolina or Clemson in the quarterfinals on Friday at 9 a.m.
