CHARLOTTESVILLE Virginia’s Monica Wright was named the state Co-Player of the Year by the Virginia Sports Information Directors Association (VaSID) and Lyndra Littles and Aisha Mohammed were named to the first and second teams, respectively.
Wright, a 5-11 junior guard from Woodbridge, Va., headlines the University Division All-State team as well as sharing Player of the Year honors with Megan Frazee of Liberty University. Wright was an honorable mention Associated Press All-American after leading Virginia to a 24-10 overall record and second round appearance in the NCAA Tournament. A first-team All-ACC selection, Wright led the league in scoring (20.5 points per game) and set the UVa single-season scoring record with 696 points in 2008-09.
Wright was named a finalist for the Wooden Award, Naismith Trophy and Wade Trophy. This is her third VaSID honor, as she was named the state Rookie of the Year in 2006-07 and was a first-team selection in 2007-08.
Littles, also named to the first team, averaged 19.9 points and 6.4 rebounds per game for the Cavaliers. She was named a first-team All-ACC member and wrapped up her career at Virginia as the fourth all-time leading scorer with 1,889 points.
Littles (Washington, D.C.), a 6-1 senior, was recently drafted No. 17 overall by the Connecticut Sun in the 2009 WNBA Draft. This is her third VaSID honor, as she was named to the first team in 2006-07 and the second team in 2007-08.
