Charlottesville, VA Prior to the start of Saturday’s annual Spring Football scrimmage, Virginia coach Al Groh announced the 2009 recipients of the Rock Weir Awards representing the most improved players during spring drills. This year’s winners were sophomore cornerback Dom Joseph (Philadelphia, Pa.) and sophomore offensive tackle Lamar Milstead (Washington, D.C.).

Last season Joseph appeared in the first four games of the year and the finale against Virginia Tech. He missed seven games due to a shoulder injury. Joseph played primarily on the Cavalier special teams. His only appearance at cornerback was at Connecticut. He did not record any tackles during the season.

Milstead did not see any game time last season.

Virginia will vote on its teams captains following the conclusion of its spring practice sessions.

Virginia opens its 2008 season on Sept. 5 at home against William & Mary.
