CHARLOTTESVILLE, VA – Virginia women’s lacrosse senior attacker Blair Weymouth is among 25 players nominated for the highest honor in collegiate lacrosse – the 2009 Tewaaraton Trophy. Sponsored by the Tewaaraton Foundation, the award is presented annually to the top male and female players in the sport.
Weymouth, a three-time All-American from Holderness, N.H., has led the Cavaliers in goals all season. With 48 goals this year and 190 in her career, she ranks fourth on Virginia’s all-time career goals records and third in career points with 265 points. She has tallied multiple goals on 57 occasions throughout her four years, including 15 this season.
The 2006 consensus National Rookie of the Year, Weymouth was also named the ACC Rookie of the Year. She has currently scored a goal in the past 24 contests for the Cavaliers the eighth longest active scoring streak in the NCAA.
A list of five finalists for the award will be announced later this spring. The ninth annual Tewaaraton Award Ceremony will be held on Thursday, May 28, 2009, at the University Club of Washington, D.C. For more information on the Tewaaraton Trophy, go to www.tewaaraton.com.
