CHARLOTTESVILLE – The Virginia women’s soccer program has announced that eight players will join the Cavalier program this fall. Emily Carrollo (Sussex, N.J.), Erica Hollenberg (Fairfax Station, Va.), Caroline Miller (Rockville, Md.), Kiley Naylor (Cincinnati, Ohio), Kate Norbo (Roanoke, Va.), Julia Roberts (Frederick, Md.), Morgan Stith (Montclair, N.J.) and Carrie Wisman (Bristol, Va.) will be freshmen on the 2009 Virginia women’s soccer team.
Five of the players in the class were named an All-American by either the NSCAA or ESPN Rise and two are ranked in the top 25 of all recruits.
“We are extremely excited about this years recruiting class since it is not only talented, but it also contains many players who we feel have the potential to contribute to our team immediately,” said head coach Steve Swanson. “In this class there are players who can handle the ball under pressure, understand the game, are exceptional athletes, have a history of helping their teams win, and most importantly, are extremely motivated to improve as players, students and people. These are all qualities we value within our program. In addition, we feel as a whole this is one of most versatile classes we have ever recruited and one that possesses some outstanding leaders who will help guide our program throughout the next four years.”
These eight players will join 16 returning players, including seven starters, from last year’s squad. The 2008 Cavaliers went 15-5-3 and reached the round of 16 of the NCAA Tournament.
