NORFOLK, Va. – Virginia’s men’s golf coach Bowen Sargent has been named the Coach of the Year by the Virginia State Golf Coaches Association. It marks the second straight year the Commonwealth’s golf coaches have honored Sargent with the award.

Virginia returned to the NCAA Championships in 2009, finishing 27th overall. It marked the first time in UVa history the Cavaliers made back-to-back appearances at the NCAA Championships.

Virginia sophomore Will Collins (Salisbury, NC.) was named a first-team All-State selection by the VSGCA. He led the Cavaliers with a 72.76 stroke average and ranked 10th in the ACC in scoring. He also shot 66 in the second round of the ACC Championships to produce the team’s low single-round score of the year.

The other first team selections included Lanto Griffin and Rafael Campos (VCU), Drew Weaver (Virginia Tech) and Eric Onesi (ODU).

Virginia golfers Kyle Stough and Ben Kohles were voted second-team All-State by the coaches.
