Cavaliers to Compete for ITA All-American Singles and Doubles Titles

TULSA, Okla. – The Virginia men’s tennis team will compete for both the singles and doubles titles on Sunday at the ITA All-American Championships. Alex Domijan (Wesley Chapel, Fla.) won singles quarterfinal and semifinal matches, and Jarmere Jenkins (College Park, Ga.) and Mac Styslinger (Birmingham, Ala.) won a doubles semifinal match on Saturday at the Case Tennis Center.

Domijan, the tournament’s No. 6 seed, opened the day with a 6-4, 6-4 quarterfinal win over Emilio Gomez of USC. He followed that victory by downing Princeton’s Matija Pecotic 6-4, 6-7(6), 7-6(7) in the semifinals. Domijan, the 2010 ITA All-American Champion, will look for his second title at the prestigious event when he faces Peter Kobelt of Ohio State in the final. A victory on Sunday would make Virginia the first school to win the singles title at the tournament in three consecutive years.

Styslinger also started the day in the singles quarterfinals, but his run at the tournament came to and end as he fell to Kobelt 6-4, 6-4. He had been looking to be the third consecutive Virginia freshman to win the title.

In doubles, Styslinger and Jenkins advanced to the final with a 6-2, 6-4 victory over Moritz Buerchner and Norbert Nemscek of North Florida. They will face Auburn’s Dan Cochrane and Andy Mies in Sunday’s final, who edged Domijan and Harrison Richmond (Pawley’s Island, S.C.) 4-6, 6-2, 6-3 in the other semifinal. That result prevented what would have been the first all-teammate doubles final at the All-American Championships since 1985 (USC).
