Virginia Cross Country Honored by USTFCCCA for Academic Success

CHARLOTTESVILLE – Both the Virginia men’s and women’s cross country teams were honored with All-Academic status as the U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) announced its academic awards for the 2012 cross country season. In addition, six Cavaliers were named individual All-Academic honorees.
Virginia was one of 134 schools to have both its men’s and women’s team honored. A total of 145 men’s teams and 200 women’s teams were recognized. To earn All-Academic status, a team must have a cumulative team GPA of 3.00 or higher and have started at least five runners at their respective NCAA regional championship.
The Cavaliers had four men and two women earn individual All-Academic honors. Mark Amirault (Walpole, Mass.), Zach Gates (Fishers, Ind.), Drew Paisley (Virginia Beach, Va.), Thomas Porter (Fredericksburg, Va.), Barbara Strehler (Richmond, Va.) and Catherine White (Roanoke, Va.) were among the 67 men and 115 women recognized. To be named to the All-Academic squad, a student-athlete must have a cumulative GPA of 3.25 or higher and earned either All-America status or finished in the top 15 (or top 10 percent) at their NCAA regional championship.
