FLUSHING MEADOWS, N.Y. – Virginia men’s tennis alumni Treat Huey (Class of 2008) and Dominic Inglot (Class of 2009) reached their first career Grand Slam quarterfinal by reaching the doubles quarterfinals of the US Open on Monday. The pair becomes the first Virginia alumni to reach a Grand Slam quarterfinal in the open era.
Huey and Inglot, the No. 16 seeds, upset third-seeded Marc Lopez and Marcel Granollers of Spain in the round of 16, 7-6(2), 6-0. They will play 10th-seeded Ivan Dodig of Croatia and Marcelo Melo of Brazil in the quarterfinals, likely on Wednesday.
Huey and Inglot are the first pair of collegiate teammates, other than the Bryan brothers, to reach the quarterfinals of the US Open doubles since 2006, when former Stanford teammates Paul Goldstein and Jim Thomas accomplished the feat.
