Frank Wins Second ITA All-American Singles Title

TULSA, Okla. – Virginia junior Mitchell Frank (Annandale, Va.) won his second ITA All-American Championships singles title Sunday with a straight-set victory over Guillermo Alcorta of Oklahoma at the Case Tennis Center. Frank downed Alcorta 6-3, 6-0 to become the fourth two-time winner in the 35-year history of the event.

“It is amazing to win this championship,” said Frank. “Sixty-four guys come here to Tulsa looking to win this championship, and 63 go away with a loss. It is such a tough tournament to win and to be able to do it twice is incredible accomplishment. It means a lot to me to be a two-time champion. I was able to play great matches in the semifinals and finals to close it out.”

Frank, the No. 12 seed in this year’s tournament, dropped just one set in his six victories. He joins Al Parker of Georgia (1989, 1990), K.J. Hippensteel of Stanford (1999, 2001) and teammate Alex Domijan (Wesley Chapel, Fla.), who won in 2010 and 2012 championships, as the only two-time championships of the event. Between Domijan and Frank, the Cavaliers have won an unprecedented four straight ITA All-American singles titles. No other school has won more than two consecutive titles.
