CHARLOTTESVILLE – No. 9 Virginia posted a 4-2 win over No. 27 Georgia Tech in Atlantic Coast Conference women’s tennis action on Saturday (April 5) at Snyder Tennis Center.

Virginia improved to 14-4 overall and 8-1 ACC with its fifth consecutive win, while Georgia Tech fell to 8-7, 5-4.

The Cavaliers won the doubles point and received singles wins from Danielle Collins (St. Petersburg, Fla.), Julia Elbaba (Oyster Bay, N.Y.) and Rachel Pierson (Princeton, N.J.).

Virginia claimed the doubles points with wins at Nos. 2 and 3. Stephanie Nauta (Galveston, Texas) and Li Xi (Kunming, China) beat Natasha Prokhnevska and Muriel Wacker 8-3 on court two. Collins and Maci Epstein (Winter Park, Fla.) clinched the point with an 8-4 win over Rasheeda McAdoo and Alexa Anton-Ohlmeyer on court three. Georgia Tech’s No. 4 Kendal Woodard and Megan Kurey led No. 9 Elbaba and Pierson 7-3 on court one when the point was clinched.

No. 33 Collins made it 2-0 with a 6-1, 6-0 win over Prokhnevska on court two. Georgia Tech claimed wins at Nos. 5 and 6 to tie the score. Wacker beat Epstein 6-2, 6-2 on court five and Anton-Ohlmeyer topped Xi 6-3, 6-3 on court six.

The Cavaliers took hold of the match with wins at Nos. 1 and 4. No. 3 Elbaba beat Woodard 6-3, 6-4 on court one and No. 50 Pierson clinched the win with a 6-3, 6-0 win over McAdoo on court four.

Virginia hosts No. 15 Clemson (16-3, 8-0 ACC) on Sunday. First serve is set for 12 p.m. at Snyder Tennis Center. Seniors Marjorie Baker (Washington, D.C.), Clare Spooner (Williamsburg, Va.), Caryssa Peretz (Cherry Hill, N.J.) and Xi will be honored in a pre-match ceremony at 11:30 a.m.
