BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – The third-ranked Virginia women’s soccer team concludes a two-game road trip to the state of Alabama as it visits Samford Sunday. Game time in Birmingham is 1 p.m. CT (2 p.m. ET).

Virginia (4-0-0) began the road trip Friday with a 3-0 victory at Alabama. Sophomore Alexis Shaffer (Cary, N.C.), junior Emily Sonnett (Marietta, Ga.) and senior Danielle Colaprico (Freehold, N.J.) scored for the Cavaliers, who posted their fourth consecutive shutout. The four consecutive shutouts to open a season tie a school record as Virginia also opened 2004 and 2008 with four straight clean sheets.

The Bulldogs (3-2-0) enter the match on a three-game winning streak after downing Belmont 2-0 on Friday. Samford has defeated Jacksonville State, Georgia State and Belmont after opening the year with losses to Cincinnati and South Carolina.

Sunday’s game is the first ever meeting between the schools. The Cavaliers have not played a team from the Southern Conference since 2000, when they downed UNC Greensboro 6-1 in the second round of the NCAA Tournament.

The third-ranked Cavaliers will be the highest ranked opponent in Samford history. They are also the first top-10 opponent to play at Samford.

The Cavaliers are currently on a school-record nine-game road win streak. Virginia has won 25 straight regular season matches, dating back to the 2012 season. Against unranked opponents, Virginia has won 35 straight games and is unbeaten in its last 49 games (48-0-1).

Virginia returns home to host the Virginia Nike Soccer Classic next week. Friday will feature a tripleheader of soccer at Klöckner Stadium. The Cavaliers play Tennessee at 5:30 p.m. in the middle game of the day, a match that will be broadcast online by NSCAAtv.com. The first game of the Virginia Nike Soccer Classic will be at 3 p.m., as Duke plays Hofstra. The tripleheader concludes at 8 p.m. with the Virginia men hosting Virginia Tech in their ACC opener.
