CHARLOTTESVILLE – Virginia senior midfielder Morgan Brian (St. Simons Island, Ga.) was named to the United States Women’s National Team for this month’s CONCACAF Women’s Championship, which will serve as qualifying for the 2015 FIFA Women’s World Cup. Brian was the only collegiate player named to the 20-player roster.
The tournament will be held Oct. 15-26 in four locations in the United States. The USWNT is in Group A and will open group play on Oct. 15 against Trinidad and Tobago in Kansas City, Kan. The championship match and third-place match are scheduled for Oct. 26, also in Chester.
The tournament’s champion, runner-up and winner of the third-place match will qualify for the 2015 FIFA Women’s World Cup in Canada. The loser of the third-place match will have an opportunity to qualify through a playoff against a South American nation in November.
