UVA Sweeps on Final Day at Oak Ridge Cardinal Invite
OAK RIDGE, Tenn. – The No. 4 Virginia rowing team swept all six races on Sunday (March 13) to conclude action at the Oak Ridge Cardinal Invitational on Melton Hill Lake.
The Cavaliers won 17 of 18 races during the two-day event to start the 2016 season.
On Sunday, the Cavaliers posted six wins against Clemson, Central Florida, Oklahoma and No. 20 Louisville. UVA tallied wins in the Third Varsity Four (7:38.68), First Varsity Eight (6:29.45), First Varsity Four (7:21.05), Third Varsity Eight (6:46.10), Second Varsity Eight (6:39.09) and Second Varsity Four (7:18.52).
“We had a good first weekend of racing after a tough week of spring break training,” Virginia head coach Kevin Sauer said. “We have a long way to go, but the team responded very well. Many thanks to the University of Louisville for hosting a great event.”
The No. 4 Cavaliers host Yale on Sunday, March 13 at the Rivanna River in Earlysville, Va. First race is set for 9 a.m.
