No. 4 UVA Wins 10 Races at Ohio State

COLUMBUS, Ohio – The fourth-ranked Virginia rowing team won 10 of 12 races against No. 3 Ohio State, No. 7 Michigan and Michigan State at the Griggs Reservoir on the Scioto River in Columbus, Ohio, Saturday (April 2). The teams raced under sunny and clear skies with temperatures in the low 40’s with increasing winds up to 20 miles per hour.
“Great racing from the team as a whole against some tough Big Ten competition,” Virginia head coach Kevin Sauer said. “We still have a lot of work to do, but are pleased with the depth and grit this team is showing at this point in the season. Thank you to Ohio State for hosting a great event.”
Virginia took five of six races from No. 7 Michigan and Michigan State in the first session. UVA won the Varsity Eight (6:23.2), Second Varsity Eight (6:30.8), Varsity Four (7:18.6), Second Varsity Four (7:18.2) and Third Varsity Eight (6:55.1). The Cavaliers finished second in the Third Varsity Four, which included host Ohio State.
The Cavaliers out-raced the three-time defending NCAA champion Buckeyes in five of six matchups in the second session. UVA won the Second Varsity Eight (6:46.2), Varsity Four (7:38.4), Second Varsity Four (7:39.7), Third Varsity Four (7:34.2) and Third Varsity Eight (7:12.4).
Virginia hosts Duke on the Rivanna Reservoir on Saturday, April 9.
