AUSTIN, Texas – The fourth-ranked Virginia rowing team swept four races against eighth-ranked Texas Saturday (April 30) on Walter E. Long Lake in Austin.

The Cavaliers raced past the Longhorns in the Second Varsity Four, Varsity Four, Second Varsity Eight and Varsity Eight.

UVA (6:59.5) defeated a pair of Texas (7:06.7 and 7:08.6) crews in the Second Varsity Four race to open the action. The Cavaliers (6:50.25) then raced by the Longhorns (7:01.7) by more than 11 seconds in the Varsity Four. UVA (6:05.7) posted a two-second win over Texas (6:07.7) in the Second Varsity Eight and concluded the action ahead of the Longhorns in the Varsity Eight, 5:58.8-6:03.2.

“We are very pleased with the results today as all our boats had good races against a very good Texas program,” Virginia head coach Kevin Sauer said. “Coach [Dave] O’Neill has put his stamp on the Longhorns already. Many thanks for Texas’ hospitality.”

The Cavaliers aim for their seventh consecutive title at the ACC Championships on May 13-14.
