CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. – Junior Jean-Christophe Koffi (Potomac, Md.) was recognized as a First Team All-American by Freshman Joe Bell (Wanaka, New Zealand) was listed on the Freshman Best XI squad.

The All-America honor adds to First Team All-ACC and United Soccer Coaches Second Team All-South Region laurels this postseason for Koffi. The Cavalier midfielder scored three goals and was tied for the team lead with four assists in 2017. Two of his three goals served as game-winners including a thrilling, double overtime tally against Pittsburgh on Oct. 20.

Bell, also featured as a ACC All-Freshman honoree, was one of 22 players nationwide to be listed on the Freshman Best XI team. He was one of four midfielders on the second team. In his first year, he started all 21 games for the Cavaliers. He totaled four points (2g, 1a) and was fifth on the team with 1,507 minutes played.

Koffi is ranked 9th overall in’s top-100 and among four ACC players in the top-10. Teammates Edward Opoku (No. 37), Jeff Caldwell (No. 59) and Sergi Nus (No. 69) are also included on the list.

Virginia has boasted an All-American for each of the last four seasons with Opoku earning second team honors from the United Soccer Coaches in 2016.

The Cavaliers finished the 2017 season with a 12-4-5 overall record and qualified for their 37th consecutive NCAA Tournament. Virginia was ranked No. 19 in the final United Soccer Coaches poll and No. 21 by
