Veronica Latsko Selected By Houston Dash In NWSL Draft

CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. – Forward Veronica Latsko (Venetia, Pa.) of the Virginia women’s soccer team became the latest player selected in the NWSL Draft when she was taken by the Houston Dash with the 28th overall pick on Thursday (Jan. 18).

Latsko is the 12th player from the Cavalier program taken in the history of the NWSL Draft as the program has more draft picks for the league than any other collegiate program.

I never would have been able to come so far without the help and support of all of my family, coaches and teammates from Pittsburgh to Virginia. I can’t thank you all enough. Dash on!”

Latsko helped lead the Cavaliers to the Sweet 16 of the NCAA Tournament in 2017, marking the 13th consecutive season for Virginia to advance to at least the Round of 16 in the event. She led the squad in goals scored (8) and in points (20) as she added four assists on the year. Five of her goals were game-winning goals, the most on the team in 2017.

She was named the National Player of the Week by the United Soccer Coaches this season after tying the Virginia single-game record for points with eight at Pittsburgh. In that match, Latsko notched a hat trick and added a pair of assists.

Latsko earned All-ACC First Team honors in her senior season.

For her career, Latsko tallied 26 goals and 14 assists for a total of 66 career points. She had nine game-winning goals for the Cavaliers. She played more than 5,300 minutes in her four-year career at Virginia, starting 53-of-93 matches played.
