CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. – No. 9 Virginia won four of five races over No. 10 Princeton on Saturday (April 21) on Lake Monticello.
The Cavaliers won the Varsity Four (7:27.9-7:46.7), Second Varsity Eight (6:35.3-6:44.7), Second Varsity Four (7:36.5-7:39.8) and Third Varsity Eight (6:53.1). UVA swept the Third Varsity Eight with top-3 finishes from each of its three boats. Princeton posted its lone win in the Varsity Eight (6:29.2-6:38.8).
“We showed really good depth across the board today,” Virginia head coach Kevin Sauer said. “The Varsity Eight was disappointing, but we’ll work on our top-end speed. I was really pleased with the 2V8 and Fours, and the 3V8s did a really nice job. So, we have some work to do for the future, but a pretty good day. Princeton’s V8 was impressive and we really appreciate their squad coming. I also want to thank our 4th years for being such great representatives of the fantastic young women in this program.”
UVA honored seniors Alice Darry (West Melton, N.Z.), Rachel Dick (Bethesda, Md.) Anna Fairs (Thorpe Thewels, England), Adi Hendlin (Tallahassee, Fla.), Mary Beth Greer (Wilton, Conn.), Jane Hudson (Sandy, Utah), Marissa Patrick (Vienna, Va.), Morgan Rosts (Jordan, Ont.), Mackenzie Springer (Fairfax, Va.), Ellie Stewart (London, England), Haley Swanson (Severna Park, Md.) and Ali Zwicker (Victoria, British Columbia) following the regatta.
