How I Spent My Summer Vacation
For the second straight summer, #UVAMTEN player Henrik Wiersholm has spent part of his summer training out west with the legendary Andre Agassi popping in to some of those sessions. Wiersholm will be a redshirt senior this coming year and has been a part of three of Virginia’s four national championship teams.
Hoos Reunion
Former #UVABase pitchers Nathan Kirby and Alec Bettinger have been reunited in the minors. Both were drafted by the Milwaukee Brewers, Kirby in 2015 and Bettinger in 2017 and are now pitching for the Brewers High-A farm team, the Carolina Mudcats. Not only are they playing together, the two are also roommates in Zebulon, N.C. Samantha Waddell of WFXR shares this great feature on the two.
Player of the Year
Congratulations to incoming field hockey player Greer Gill who has been named the Virginian-Pilot’s 2017-18 Female Athlete of the Year. Gill helped steer Norfolk Academy’s field hockey team to a 25-0 season and a third state championship in four seasons. The senior midfielder scored 15 goals and had 28 assists as the Bulldogs finished the season ranked No. 1 in South Hampton Roads for the first time and attained a No. 2 national ranking. She also was on Norfolk Academy’s indoor track and girls soccer teams.
