Former Virginia baseball player Keith Werman (2009-12) will return his second season as a development coordinator in the San Diego Padres organization. Werman and his brother Kyle were both four-year letterwinners of the Cavalier baseball program. Keith played on both the 2009 and the 2011 College World Series teams.

Team Panama

Former #UVAMBB standout Akil Mitchell is currently playing for the Panama national team. The squad is playing in the second round of qualifying for the 2019 FIBA World Cup. There are 16 nations competing in the Americas qualifiers, with the three (3) highest-placed teams from each group and the best 4th-placed team (a total of seven (7) teams) shall qualify for the world cup. Mitchell is averaging 9.0 points, 5.4 rebounds and 2.0 assists per game. The team was edged 71-70 by Puerto Rico on Sunday, but this video tweeted out in the days leading up to that contest highlights a familiar sight to Hoos fans, a massive dunk against Mexico (No.1 highlight, of course, 40 seconds into the video). Next up for Team Panama is a showdown with Team USA on Feb. 22.

This is a bit of a delayed post, but definitely one worthy of attention. Big shout out to the members of the UVA Student-Athlete Advisory Committee who bundled up and spent last Monday working as bell ringers to raise money for the Salvation Army.
