Former #UVAMBB standout Joe Harris and the rest of Team USA have landed in Australia. They will face the Australian national team in Melbourne on August 22 and again on August 24 and Team Canada in Sydney on August 26. There are 13 players on the training roster in the mix to make the final 12-man World Cup team.

The Portland Thorns maintain a hold on first place in the NWSL standings, in part because of a win over the Washington Spirit over the weekend. In that win, former #UVAWSOC player Emily Sonnett scored with a flick off a corner from Tobin Heath to extend her club’s lead. You can watch the goal (and the ensuing celebration) in this video tweeted by the Thorns.

Former #UVASB player Lisa Palmer set pitching records during her time at UVA and recently made another huge impact as the lead donor for the new softball stadium. Now, she’s set to become the only female CEO of a Jacksonville-based public company when she takes over Regency Center Corp. on Jan. 1.  The Jacksonville Daily Record posted this great feature on her.
