CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. – Members of the No. 20 Virginia women’s tennis team turned in strong performances at a pair of tournaments on Saturday (Jan. 11) with players continuing to advance at the Orlando Invitational in Florida and the National Collegiate Tennis Classic in California.

Junior Vivian Glozman won the consolation championship at the National Collegiate Tennis Classic after picking up a pair of wins on Saturday. She and Hunter Bleser (New Braunfels, Texas) also advanced to the finals in doubles on Sunday (Jan. 12).

In Florida, nationally-ranked singles players Natasha Subhash (Fairfax, Va.) and Sofia Munera (Pereira, Colombia), both picked up wins in singles. Virginia also won both doubles matches on Saturday at the Orlando Invitational. 

CAVALIERS AT THE ORLANDO INVITATIONAL 
Virginia again swept through doubles action at the Orlando Invitational, while going 2-2 in singles action on the day.

Subhash, the No. 30 player nationally in singles, won a 6-2, 6-1 match against Texas Tech’s Bojana Marinkov. In the Cavaliers’ other win, No. 78 Munera won a three-set battle with the Red Raiders’ Oliva Peet by a score of 7-5, 6-7, 6-3. Amber O’Dell (New Milford, N.J.) and Chloe Gullickson (Palm Beach Gardens, Fla.) both dropped their singles matches on the day.

In doubles action, the Virginia pairing of Gullickson and Subhash took a 6-1 win over the Kansas tandem of Malkia Ngounoue and Maria Ribes, while Munera and O’Dell won over the Jayhawks’ duo of Carmen Manu and Sonia Smagina. The Kansas doubles tandem is ranked No. 42 nationally.
 
Play will conclude at the Orlando Invitational on Sunday (Jan. 12).
 
CAVALIERS AT THE NATIONAL COLLEGIATE TENNIS CLASSIC
It was a strong day for Glozman on the west coast as the junior won both singles matches and her doubles match. She defeated a pair of Baylor players in singles, winning 6-3, 6-1 over Baylor’s Paula Baranano and 6-2, 2-6, 1-0 (7) over the Bears’ Kristina Sorokolet to advance to the finals of the consolation bracket. 

Glozman claims the consolation championship as her opponent for the finals withdrew from the competition.

In doubles action, the Virginia pairing of Glozman and Bleser advanced to the finals with an 8-6 win over Southern California’s duo of Eryn Cayetano and Sydney Van Alphen. The Cavalier tandem will face Arizona State’s duo of Tereza Kolarova and Cali Jankowski.
