CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. – The No. 11 Virginia women’s tennis team (3-0) returns to action on Thursday, hosting Richmond (1-3) in a 3 p.m. match at the Boar’s Head Sports Club.

CAVALIERS IN THE RANKINGS
Virginia vaulted up the rankings this week following the program’s victories over a pair of nationally-ranked foes last weekend. The Cavaliers moved up nine spots to No. 11 in the latest ITA Rankings that were released on Wednesday (Jan. 29). Virginia had previously been No. 20 in the rankings for the first two weeks of the dual season.

In singles action, the Cavaliers continue to have three players in the rankings with freshman Natasha Subhash (Fairfax, Va.) ranked No. 30, redshirt junior Rosie Johanson (Vancouver, British Columbia) ranked No. 35 and sophomore Sofia Munera (Pereira, Colombia) ranked No. 78.

A LOOK AT THE SPIDERS
Richmond comes into the midweek matchup with an overall record of 1-3 and is coming off a loss at Navy this past weekend. The Spiders have lost three straight after opening the season with a sweep of Mary Washington. Richmond has a team that features four seniors and two juniors as part of the 10-player roster. The Spiders three dual-match losses have come at the hands of Penn, Syracuse and the Midshipmen.

THE SERIES WITH RICHMOND
Virginia and Richmond have faced each other 32 times in the history of the two programs with the Cavaliers holding a 28-4 lead in the all-time series. 

LAST TIME OUT FOR VIRGINIA
Virginia went on the road last weekend and picked up a pair of wins over nationally-ranked opponents, defeating No. 16 California and No. 22 Tennessee in Kansas to win the ITA Kickoff regional hosted by the Jayhawks. The Cavaliers defeated the Bears 4-1 to start the weekend and then rallied to down the Lady Vols 4-3 in the finals. With the win, Virginia earned a berth in the ITA National Team Indoor Championships next week. 

SUBHASH EARNS WEEKLY HONORS
For the second consecutive week, Subhash was named the ACC Freshman of the Week when the league office released its weekly award winners on Tuesday. She then added to her accolades later in the day when she was named the UTR ITA Division I Player of the Week as she helped Virginia lock up the wins over nationally-ranked California and Tennessee last weekend at the ITA Kickoff.

UP NEXT FOR THE CAVALIERS
Virginia hits the road this weekend to open ACC play at Boston College. The Cavaliers and the Eagles are set for a 10 a.m. serve in their match on Sunday (Feb. 2).
