Cavaliers Tied for Second with Nine Holes Remaining at IJGA Collegiate Invitational

Guadalajara, Mexico – With nine holes of competition remaining, the Virginia women’s golf team finished the second day of play at the IJGA Collegiate Invitational tied for second place. The Cavaliers are the host school for the 14-team event that is being played at Guadalajara Country Club in Guadalajara, Mexico. The tournament completed 27 holes of play on Monday and will hold the final nine holes on Tuesday morning.
The Cavaliers shot 1-over 289 during the second round and finished the day at the 45-hole mark at 3-under 177. They are tied with fifth-ranked South Carolina. No. 18 LSU took a commanding lead after shooting 4-under 284 during the second round and ending the day at 12-under 168 through 45 holes.
UVA was led in the second round by junior Beth Lillie (Fullerton, Calif.), who shot 1-under 71 and finished the round in sixth place at 141. Following the first half of the final round, Lillie was in seventh place at 3-under par.
Sophomore Haeley Wotnosky (Wake Forest, N.C.) ended the second round in 17th place at even par 144 while freshman Virginia Bossi (Como, Italy) was one shot behind her in 21st position. Sophomore Riley Smyth (Cary, N.C.) matched Lillie for the day’s low round, carding a 71, and moved up to 27th place at 146 after 36 holes of play. Senior Julia Ford (Shrewsbury, Mass.) is 64th at 155. Cavalier freshman Celeste Valinho (Jacksonville, Fla.) moved up to 43rd place with a score of 74 for a 36-hole total of 149.
LSU freshman Ingrid Lindblad continues to lead the field. She shot 2-under 70 during the second round and was at 10-under par after Monday’s play.
