CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. – The Virginia women’s basketball team (3-8, 0-1 ACC) travels to play at No. 16 Georgia Tech (10-3, 1-1 ACC) on Sunday, Jan. 9 at 4 p.m. at McCamish Pavilion in Atlanta, Ga.

  • The game will be broadcast on the ACC Network and streamed online through ACCNX. ACCNX streams are available through participating TV providers that carry ACC Network and can be watched on the ESPN app and through WatchESPN

NOTING THE CAVALIERS

  • The Cavaliers’ scheduled seven-day holiday break from games turned into a 17-day break after the Dec. 22 game at Texas Southern was canceled, and the Dec. 30 Notre Dame, Jan. 2 Miami and Jan. 27 Virginia Tech games were postponed. Virginia has played one game since Dec. 8, playing at NC State on Dec. 19
  • The Texas Southern game was to be UVA’s final non-conference game of the season. The Cavaliers finished non-conference play with a 3-7 mark
  • Grad student guard Amandine Toi led all scorers with a 20-point performance at No. 2 NC State in UVA’s last game. It was her third 20-point game of the season
  • Toi has led the team in scoring in each of the last five games and six of the previous seven. All three of her 20 point games have come in that seven-game span
  • Toi leads the ACC in minutes played, averaging 35.7 per game
  • Toi has moved into the team lead in field goal shooting percentage at 44.3 percent. She went 9-of-38 (23.6 percent) through the season’s first four games. In the last seven, she has been shooting 51.0 percent
  • Junior point guard Taylor Valladay scored double figures in two of the last three games. She has been averaging 10.0 points per game in the last three contests
  • Valladay is seventh in the ACC in assists per game at 3.9
  • Sophomore guard Kaydan Lawson has come off the bench to lead the team in rebounding in two of the last three games, including at NC State
  • Lawson has also scored in double figures in two of the last three games, averaging 9.0 points per game in that span
  • Junior forward Camryn Taylor has led the team in scoring all season. She is 15th in the ACC in field goal shooting percentage (41.7)
  • Taylor also ranks seventh in the ACC in free throw shooting percentage at 73.2 percent. The team as a whole is shooting 57.7 percent
  • The Cavaliers are forcing an average of 17.9 turnovers per game with 7.5 steals per game

NOTING GEORGIA TECH

  • Georgia Tech remained at No. 16 in this week’s AP Poll. It is the team’s fourth-straight week being in the top-25
  • The Yellow Jackets were scheduled to play Duke on Thursday, but the game was postponed. It was their second postponement of the season after also having their Dec. 30 game at Pitt postponed.
  • Georgia Tech played one game in between the two postponements, being edged 50-48 by No. 3 Louisville in a Jan. 2 home game
  • Georgia Tech leads the nation in scoring defense, with opponents limited to 45.7 points per game
  • The Yellow Jackets are second in the nation and first in the ACC, holding opponents to 31.6 field goal shooting percentage
  • The squad is third in the ACC with a +9.9 rebounding margin
  • Lorela Cubaj leads the nation in rebounds per game at 12.8. She also leads the ACC with a 2.74 assist-to-turnover ratio. She is fourth in assists per game at 4.8. She was named to the Wooden Award Midseason Watch List this week
  • Georgia Tech head coach Nell Fortner coached Team USA to a gold medal at the 2000 Sydney Olympic Games. UVA head coach Tina Thompson won gold as a player at the next two Olympic Games in Athens in 2004 and Bejing in 2008, giving them three-straight Olympic gold medals between the two
  • Virginia associate head coach Karleen Thompson was on the coaching staff of the Atlanta Dream from 2013-17
  • Virginia leads the all-time series 58-16 and has won five of the last six
  • The Yellowjackets won the last meeting, 61-51, in Atlanta on Dec. 29, 2019
