Cavaliers Sweep MASC Honors
CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. – The Virginia men’s and women’s squash teams swept the 2022-2023 Mid-Atlantic Squash Conference Yearly Awards, the league announced Thursday (March 23).
Meagan Best was the unanimous choice for MASC Women’s Player of the Year and Aly Hussein was named the MASC Men’s Player of the Year.
Hussein finished 16-1 on the year, playing all 17 matches at the No.1 position for the Cavaliers. Best also played all 17 matches at No. 1 and was 13-4 on the season.
JP Tew was named the MASC Men’s Rookie of the Year with a 10-7 record in his debut season. Lina Tammam was the Co-Rookie of the Year with Stanford’s Miriam Cheng. Tammam jumped up to the No. 3 position and finished with a 7-3 record in her debut season.
Head coach Mark Allen was named the Co-Women’s Coach of the Year and the Men’s Coach of the Year after leading Virginia’s men to its fourth consecutive MASC Champion and the women to a No. 4 finish in the CSA Squash standings, a program best.
Best, Maria Moya and Tammam earned All-Conference First Team honors and Emma Jinks and Olivia Walsh earned All-Conference Second Team.
Hussein, Omar El Torkey, Taha Dinana and Tew were named to the All-Conference First Team.
