No. 11 Virginia Hosts Virginia Tech in Smithfield Commonwealth Clash

CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. – The No. 11 Virginia women’s lacrosse team (10-5, 5-3 ACC) closes out the regular season hosting Virginia Tech (9-7, 3-5 ACC) on Thursday (April 20) at 7 p.m. at Klöckner Stadium. The game is part of the Smithfield Commonwealth Clash.

AGAINST VIRGINIA TECH

  • Virginia and Virginia Tech are meeting for the 29th time in series history.
  • The Cavaliers own a 25-3 record all-time against the Hokies and are 14-1 in games played in Charlottesville.
  • UVA has won three of the last four meetings. Last season the Cavaliers won 18-11 in Blacksburg, Va., on April 21.

SMITHFIELD COMMONWEALTH CLASH

  • The matchup is part of the Smithfield Commonwealth Clash.
  • The rivalry between Virginia Athletics and Virginia Tech Athletics has a long and storied history dating back more than 125 years within the Commonwealth of Virginia. The Cavaliers and Hokies first faced off on the gridiron in Charlottesville in 1895. First coined the Commonwealth Clash during the 2014-2015 season, the rivalry has expanded and intensified across the 22 sports the two institutions face off in head-to-head competition.
  • The Cavaliers currently lead the Clash 9-8 with one point on the line in Thursday’s contest.

  • Virginia is tied with Notre Dame for fourth in the ACC standings. The Cavaliers own the tiebreaker with their 16-13 win against the Irish in the regular season.

  • Junior Morgan Schwab is fourth in the ACC and ninth nationally in assists (36).

Virginia will compete in the 2023 ACC Championship, with the quarterfinals, semifinals and championship game held at American Legion Memorial Stadium in Charlotte, N.C.
