Kelly and Jones Named Rowing Co-Captains

CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. – Seniors Kate Kelly and Beatrice Jones have been named co-captains of the 2023-24 Virginia rowing team, head coach Kevin Sauer announced Monday (July 24).

“I cannot think of a more deserving and capable pair to lead our team in 2023-24,” Sauer said.

Kelly and Jones helped Virginia to its 13th consecutive ACC championship and 10th-place finish at the NCAA championship in 2022-23. Kelly was part of the Varsity Eight, which placed runner-up at the ACC championship and 11th at the NCAA championship. Jones was part of the ACC champion Third Varsity Eight.

Kelly was named Pocock Racing Shells First-Team All-America and recently finished 10th for the United States in the women’s four at the 2023 World Rowing Under 23 Championships. Kelly and Jones were both named to the ACC Honor Roll. In addition, Jones was named to the All-ACC Academic team.
