PHILADELPHIA – The No. 5 Virginia women’s squash team (11-2) picked up a 9-0 victory against No. 15 Georgetown (11-7) at the 2024 Mid-Atlantic Squash Conference Championships on Saturday (Feb. 10) at the Arlen Specter U.S. Squash Center in Philadelphia, Pa.
Virginia won all nine positions by 3-0 scores. Senior Erin O’Connor battled Eena Yu through five games in the exhibition match, coming out with an 11-13, 11-3, 11-6, 8-11, 11-5 victory.
The Cavaliers went 2-0 in Group 1 of the championships, also defeating Franklin & Marshall 9-0 on Friday, to advance to Sunday’s final. The Cavaliers will take on No. 7 Stanford (5-4) in the championship, playing for the Gaynor Cup at 12 p.m.
The six teams of the MASC are broken up into Group 1 and Group 2. Top-seeded Virginia anchored Group 1 and faced the 4 and 5 seeds in Group Play. Stanford anchored Group 2, winning 5-4 against Drexel and 9-0 against Dickinson.
This is the Cardinal’s first year in the conference. Virginia and Stanford did not face one another in the regular season but did compete in a preseason scrimmage.
Virginia is looking for its second conference title, having won the inaugural Gaynor Cup in 2019.
