No. 5 Virginia Returns Home to Host Syracuse and BC
CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. – The No. 5 Virginia women’s tennis team (13-2, 5-0 ACC) hosts Syracuse (9-5, 3-4 ACC) on Friday, March 22 at 4 p.m. and Boston College (6-8, 1-6 ACC) on Sunday, March 24 at 12 p.m.
Both matches are scheduled to be played on the outdoor courts of the Virginia Tennis Facility at the Boar’s Head Resort. Please monitor UVA Women’s Tennis social media accounts for weather-related changes.

CAVALIER NOTES
- This is Virginia’s first home match since the final of ITA Kickoff Weekend on January 27. The Cavaliers have played their last nine matches on the road or at neutral sites
- This weekend is the celebration of the 50th Anniversary of the first varsity women’s tennis match. Tennis was one of the first three women’s sports to receive varsity status at the University for the 1973-74 season. Program alumnae will be in attendance at the matches on Friday and Saturday as part of the celebration
- Virginia remained at No. 5 in this week’s ITA Team Rankings
- Sara Ziodato leads the team with 23 singles victories, including an 11-2 record in dual matches
- Both Hibah Shaikh and Melodie Collard have won their last six completed singles matches
- Shaikh is 21-5 in singles and 10-1 in dual matches. She is ranked No. 25 in singles
- Shaikh and Natasha Subhash are 15-3 in doubles and ranked No. 27 in the ITA doubles rankings
