No. 5 Virginia Closes Regular Season at Home Friday and Sunday

CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. –  The No. 5 Virginia women’s tennis team (18-3, 10-1 ACC) closes out the regular season by hosting No. 19 Miami (9-5, 7-3 ACC) on Friday, April 12 at 4 p.m. and No. 23 Florida State (14-6, 8-3 ACC) on Sunday, April 14 at 12 p.m.

Both matches are scheduled to be played on the outdoor courts of the Virginia Tennis Facility at the Boar’s Head Resort. Please monitor UVA Women’s Tennis social media accounts for weather-related changes.

MATCH INFORMATION

• The matches will be part of the Cracked Racquets CrossCourt Coverage on ACCNX
• Admission is free
• Free pizza will be available for the first 50 student at Friday’s match and the first 50 fans at Sunday’s contest

SENIOR DAY

• Sunday’s match is Senior Day
• Natasha Subhash, Hibah Shaikh and Sara Ziodato will be honored in an on-court ceremony at 11:45 a.m. ahead of the match, so make plans to be there early to help us celebrate their Cavalier careers

CAVALIER NOTES

• Virginia fell one place to No. 5 in this week’s ITA team rankings
• The Cavaliers enter the weekend with a 10-1 record in ACC play, tied for first with North Carolina. Florida Stat and Georgia Tech are tied for third at 8-3 with Miami in fifth at 7-3. The top four teams earn double byes in the ACC Championship
• The Cavaliers are looking to match the program record for ACC wins in a season (12, set in 2014)
• UVA is looking for its fewest losses in conference play. The 2014 team lost twice, posting a 12-2 mark
• Virginia was the co-ACC Regular Season champion in 2014, the only time UVA has finished at the top of the standings. Four teams tied that year with identical 12-2 records. UVA went on to win the first of its ACC tournament titles that season
• Virginia set the program records this season for consecutive wins (10), consecutive ACC wins (9) and best start in conference play (9-0)
• Mélodie Collard and Elaine Chervinsky remain in the top 20 of the ITA Doubles rankings, coming in at No. 16 this week. They are 10-6 on the top court
• Hibah Shaikh and Natasha Subhash are 20-4 in doubles this year, including an 11-2 mark at No. 2. They are No. 39 in the ITA Doubles rankings
• Shaikh is ranked No. 23 in singles with a 23-8 record
• Collard is 15-2 in singles this spring with a 25-8 overall record
• Chervinsky is 15-3 in singles
• The Hurricanes are led by Alexa Noel, who is ranked No. 9 in singles with a 17-6 record
• Miami leads the all-time series 21-7
• Miami has won the last four regular-season meetings between the two teams but UVA downed the Hurricanes 4-3 in the quarterfinals of the ACC Championship
• FSU’s Vic Allen is coming off her third consecutive ACC Player of the Week recognition and moved to No. 29 in the ITA national singles rankings after she went defeated 25th-ranked Casie Wooten of Georgia Tech and No. 5 Amelia Rajecki of NC State last weekend
• Florida State leads the all-time series 28-16
• Virginia has won the last two meetings
