CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. – Virginia kicker Will Bettridge has been named to the Allstate Wuerffel Trophy Watch List, the Wuerffel Foundation announced Thursday (Aug. 1). Named after Danny Wuerffel, the 1996 Heisman Trophy-winning quarterback from the University of Florida, the Wuerffel Trophy is the premier award for community service among Football Bowl Subdivision (FBS) student-athletes.

The Allstate Wuerffel Trophy embodies Wuerffel’s commitment to being a humanitarian, while honoring student-athletes who are inspired to serve others and make positive impacts on society. This year marks the 20th anniversary of the Trophy’s founding, and the Foundation will recognize the first nineteen recipients throughout the fall season.

An active member in the Charlottesville community, Bettridge has volunteered with numerous elementary schools in the Charlottesville area, including Johnson Elementary, Greer Elementary and Mountain View Elementary. He has also dedicated time to visiting the UVA Children’s Hospital and the Ronald McDonald House. In 2023, Bettridge attended the Unity Walk, held in Charlottesville and organized by UVA Athletics. Bettridge currently serves as a representative for UVA’s Student-Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC) on behalf of the football team. In the classroom, he is a two-time All-ACC Academic Team recipient, having garnered back-to-back honors in 2022 and 2023.

The 2024 Allstate Wuerffel Trophy finalists and recipient will be selected by an illustrious national voting committee, including a fan vote component, and announced on ESPN’s Home Depot College Football Awards Show on Dec. 12.  The Allstate Wuerffel Trophy Presentation Gala will take place Feb. 1, 2025, at the College Football Hall of Fame in Atlanta.

San Diego Chargers’ wide receiver and former University of Georgia Bulldog, Ladd McConkey, received the Trophy in 2023. Like McConkey, the 2024 recipient will be invited to join Wuerffel in New York City to attend the Heisman Trophy ceremonies, including the press conference, televised announcement show, and gala.

The Wuerffel Foundation recently partnered with Allstate to unify college football’s highest community service honors. Eleven of the Watch List nominees will be named to the Allstate AFCA Good Works Team and will be Allstate Wuerffel Trophy semifinalists.
