No. 3 Virginia Hosts Cal, Stanford this Weekend
CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. – The No. 3 Virginia field hockey team (5-0, 0-0 ACC) opens conference play this weekend with two Atlantic Coast Conference contests. UVA hosts California (4-0, 0-0 ACC) on Friday, Sept. 20 at 6 p.m. and Stanford (5-1, 0-0 ACC) on Sunday, Sept. 22 at 1 p.m.

- Friday’s game will be broadcast on the ACC Network
- Sunday’s match will stream online on ACCNX through the ESPN app. It is available through participating TV providers that carry ACC Network

MATCH NOTES
- The Cavaliers remained at No. 3 in the NFHCA Coaches Poll
- There are five undefeated teams remaining in NCAA Division I field hockey: Virginia and Cal are two of those five
- Virginia’s 5-0 start is its best start to a season since starting the 2013 season at 7-0
- Grad student Suze Leemans scored the game-winning goal in Virginia’s 1-0 road win at then No. 5 Maryland on Friday. It was her team-leading fourth of the season
- Through the first five games, nine different Cavaliers have scored goals and a total of 13 players have tallied points. Only four players who have appeared in games have not scored a goal or had an assist yet
- Virginia is ranked second in the ACC in goals per game (3.00)
- Virginia is seventh in the nation and second in the ACC in scoring margin at +2.15
- Friday’s game will be Cal’s first ACC game. Stanford opens conference play on Friday at Louisville
- The last meeting against Cal was a 4-3 overtime loss by UVA in a neutral site match at Northwestern in 2011
- Cal has played in Charlottesville twice, in 2002 and 2007, dropping both games
- Stanford played at Turf Field on October 20, 2006, with UVA winning 3-2 in overtime
