The Series with the Eagles

  • The matchup with Boston College will mark the 23rd meeting between the two programs all-time.
  • Virginia owns a 18-4 advantage in the series and are 13-3 against the Eagles under head coach George Gelnovatch.
  • The teams have split their last two meetings as Virginia came away with a 2-0 victory in 2022 while the Eagles edged the Cavaliers in a 1-0 result in 2015.

Three on the Bounce

  • The Cavaliers enter the game on its longest winning streak of the season with three consecutive victories including a pair of ranked opponents (No. 19 Virginia Tech/No. 8 JMU).
  • In addition to defeating a pair of ranked opponents at home, UVA also took three points from Boston College away — a notoriously difficult fixture in the ACC. Virginia recorded its first win away to BC since the 2005 season thanks to a late goal from Nick Dang.
  • Following the win at BC, UVA is now 1-0-3 on the road with just one away fixture remaining on the schedule (at Pitt, 10/25)

Defensive Class

  • The Cavaliers also enter the game on a run of two consecutive clean sheets with 1-0 wins over JMU and Boston College
  • Virginia ranks second in the ACC and 15th in NCAA Division I with a team goals against average of just .750.
  • Goalkeeper Joey Batrouni ranks second in the ACC with a save percentage of .775

Wiese Approaching History

  • Virginia captain Paul Wiese is approaching the record books with his career assist tally
  • Currently at 21, Wiese needs just one more assist to make it to No. 10 all-time at Virginia
  • The last Virginia player to crack a top-10 list for a career total in an offensive stat category was Will Bates (2009-12) who ranks in Virginia’s top 10 in points (102), Goals (46), Shots (230), and game-winning goals (15).

Early Autumn Streaks

  • Both of the previous two seasons featured lengthy unbeaten runs that were kickstarted in late September and early October.
  • In 2022, Virginia started the season with a 4-3-0 record through its first seven games.
  • The Cavalier season would later feature an eight-game unbeaten run (3-0-5) that started on Oct. 7—Virginia played six top-25 teams over that stretch.
  • Virginia went on to earn the No. 4 overall seed in the 2022 NCAA Men’s Soccer Championship.
  • In 2023, the Cavaliers started 4-3-1 in their first eight games.
  • Virginia tore off a 10-game unbeaten run (7-0-3) that started on Sept. 26.

  • In 2022, Virginia went unbeaten on the road in ACC play with a 3-0-1 record
