WESTMONT, Ill.– Members of the Virginia men’s and women’s swimming and diving team will be competing at the second stop of the World Aquatics Swimming World Cup, being held Oct. 17-19 at the FMC Natatorium in Westmont, Ill.

Three members of the current roster, Jack Aikins, Sara Curtis and Davin Lindholm, joined alums Kate Douglass, Gretchen Walsh and Alex Walsh in a field of the top swimming talent in the world.

Douglass, who broke the 100 Free world record on Sunday night, was the top female athlete of the meet, with 59.1 points to win the stop. She just edged Gretchen Walsh who had 59.0 points. Walsh leads the overall points race after two stops with 118.1 points. Douglass is in second with 118.0 points.

Curtis qualified for two finals, making the cut in both the 50 Back and the 100 Free.

The swimming world cup tour wraps up next week in Toronto.

Friday, Oct. 17 Recap

Sara Curtis swam in two prelims, making the A-final of the 50 back with the sixth-fastest time of the morning (26.33). She went head-to-head with Gretchen Walsh in the final with Walsh taking silver (25.64) and Curtis finishing sixth (26.27). Curtis just missed the A-final of the 50 Free with a 24.45, placing ninth.

Jack Aikins also just missed an A-final in the 200 Back, finishing 10th with a 1:53.08. Davin Lindholm represented Finland, competing in the prelims of the 100 Breast and 50 Free, but failed to make the finals.

Kate Douglass was in two A-finals, the 200 Breast and 100 IM. She took gold in the 200 Breast with Alex Walsh taking silver with a 2:18.54.

Gretchen Walsh and Kate Douglass finished 1-2 in the 100 IM with times of 55.77 and 56.42.

Saturday, Oct. 18 Recap

For the second time at the meet, Sara Curtis came up just shy of making an A Final, posting the 9th fastest time in qualifying for the 50 Fly (26.20).

Jack Aikins swam in prelims of the 50 Back. Davin Lindholm swam in prelims of the 50 Breast and 100 Free.

Alex Walsh swam in the morning timed finals of the 400 IM, posting the top time of the session, a mark that ended up seventh overall after the evening session. She took silver in the 100 Breast with Kate Douglass winning the event.

Gretchen Walsh posted the second-fastest time ever in the 50 Fly (23.90), just missing breaking her own world record.

Sunday, Oct. 19 Recap

Kate Douglass won the 100 Free in world-record time. Her mark of 50.19 broke the previous record of 50.25 set in 2017 by Australian Cate Campbell. Gretchen Walsh won the 100 Fly (53.72) and Alex Walsh took the 200 IM (2:04.44).

Sara Curtis made her second final of the week, qualifying for the 100 Free. She finished seventh in the final. Jack Aikins just missed making the final in the 100 Back, finishing 10th in prelims.
