Cavaliers Ready for Scott Stadium Doubleheader, Women’s 50th Anniversary Celebration

The Virginia men's lacrosse team hosts Utah at 11 a.m., while the UVA women's team welcomes Syracuse at 2 p.m.

CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. — For the first time since 2011 – and ahead of hosting the 2026 NCAA Men’s Lacrosse Championships – Virginia lacrosse returns to Scott Stadium on Saturday (March 21). The Cavalier men’s and women’s teams will take part in a marquee doubleheader, highlighted by the UVA women’s lacrosse program celebrating its 50th anniversary this weekend. 

The Virginia men (3-4) welcome Utah (5-2) for an 11 a.m. tilt, while the 19th-ranked UVA women (5-5, 3-2 ACC) host No. 10 Syracuse (6-3, 3-2 ACC) at 2 p.m., or approximately 45 minutes after the conclusion of the men’s game. 

General admission tickets are available for $13.50 at UVAtix.com and valid for both games in sections 101-109 only. The Hill at Scott Stadium is closed to spectators. Re-entry is permitted for Saturday's doubleheader. Fans who wish to re-enter must have their hand stamped by event staff before exiting the venue.

Free parking is available on a first-come, first-served basis in any of the designated navy-blue lots surrounding Scott Stadium. However, patrons must enter through east gate of the stadium. PARKING MAP →

POSTGAME AUTOGRAPHS 
Following the conclusion of each game, the UVA men’s and women’s lacrosse teams will hold a brief autograph session for fans in attendance on the north concourse at the top of The Hill.

BROADCAST INFORMATION 
Both lacrosse games will stream on ACC Network Extra (ACCNX). 

The men’s lacrosse game will no longer be broadcast on WINA (98.9 FM/1070), which will instead carry Virginia women’s basketball’s NCAA Tournament first-round matchup against No. 7 seed Georgia at 1:30 p.m.

SERIES HISTORY 

  • Virginia leads the all-time series with Utah, 3-0. 
  • The previous three meetings occurred during the 2019, 2021 and 2025 regular seasons. 
  • In last year's meeting, the Cavaliers scored the first three goals and never looked back in a 14-9 victory over the Utes at Klöckner Stadium. 
  • Three Wahoos recorded hat tricks in the win, including Truitt Sunderland (3g, 3a) and Ryan Colsey (3g, 1a). It was also one of six games in 2025 in which UVA held its opponent to single-digit goals. 
  • Sunderland's six points in last year's victory are the most by a Cavalier in the Utah series. 

SCOUTING THE UTES 

  • Prior to Iona’s inaugural season this year, Utah and St. Bonaventure were the most recent Division I schools to add men’s lacrosse, both beginning competition in 2019. 
  • Utah is in its eighth year as a Division I program and holds an all-time record of 57-45. 
  • Head coach Andrew McMinn is in his fifth season with the Utes and is the all-time wins leader at Utah with a record of 44-25. Prior to his tenure with the Utes, McMinn spent 10 seasons as the head coach at Robert Morris. 
  • The Utes are in their fifth season in the ASUN Conference and are coming off four consecutive regular-season conference titles (2022-25). Utah has also captured two ASUN Championships in the last three seasons (2023-24). 
  • The Utes earned the top spot in the preseason ASUN Coaches Poll, the fifth straight year that Utah has been voted at least tied for first in the league's preseason predicted order of finish. 
  • Utah is led by defenseman Nikko DiPoniol, who in 2025 was named the ASUN's Defensive Player of the Year and an All-American honorable mention by Inside Lacrosse and USA Lacrosse. 
  • Per LacrosseReference, Utah returned 98% of its production in goal, 96% at the faceoff X, 81% on defense and 78% on offense. 

SCOTT STADIUM LACROSSE HISTORY  

  • Saturday's contest against the Utes marks the first lacrosse game at Scott Stadium since the Cavaliers hosted Maryland on April 2, 2011. 
  • In the midst of a hailstorm, UVA fell 12-7 to the Terrapins in the regular-season matchup. However, the Cavaliers got the last laugh when they defeated UMD 9-7 in the NCAA championship game, capturing the program's fifth NCAA title and seventh national championship overall. 
  • Prior to the 2011 regular-season meeting with the Terps, UVA had not played a men’s lacrosse game at Scott Stadium since 1995.  
  • The Wahoos moved into Klöckner Stadium in 1993, but periodically played early-season games at Scott Stadium, which then had artificial turf, until 1995. 
  • Prior to the opening of Klöckner Stadium for the 1992-93 academic year, Scott Stadium served as the primary venue for home UVA men's lacrosse games. 

CHAMPIONSHIP WEEKEND AT SCOTT STADIUM 

  • On May 24, 2025, the University of Virginia was named the host of the 2026 NCAA Men's Lacrosse Championships, also commonly referred to as "Championship Weekend." 
  • In keeping with longstanding tradition, Championship Weekend will unfold over Memorial Day Weekend (May 23-25) with three days of action at Scott Stadium. 
  • The venue accommodates more than 60,000 spectators, and in addition to serving as the home of UVA football has hosted concerts for some of the world’s most iconic touring artists, including The Rolling Stones, U2, and Charlottesville’s own Dave Matthews Band. 

McCABE MILLON'S IMPRESSIVE START 

  • McCabe Millon's junior campaign is off to a hot start. 
  • Millon currently leads all Division I players in assists (3.57) per game and is one of only two DI players averaging at least 5.86 points per game. 
  • He has notched at least five points in all but one game this season. 
  • Millon achieved career highs in both points (9) and assists (5) in UVA's season opener, a 19-14 win over Colgate (Feb. 8). 

HOOS IN THE NATIONAL STATISTICAL RANKINGS 

  • For games played through March 17, Virginia is second nationally in assists (9.86), third in ground balls (38.29) and points (23.86/gm), fourth in caused turnovers (12.14) and ninth in scoring offense (14.00/gm). 
  • McCabe Millon leads all Division I players in assists with 3.57 per game and is one of only two players nationally averaging at least 5.86 points per game. 
  • His brother Brendan Millon is second among all Division I freshmen in assists per game (2.14), also tied for 18th overall nationally. He's also one of two DI freshmen averaging at least 4.29 points per game. 
  • Brendan and McCabe Millon are first and tied for fourth, respectively, among all ACC players in points per game. UVA is the only ACC team with two players averaging at least 4.29 points per game. 
  • Faceoff specialist Griff Meyer is 16th in ground balls (6.29/gm), also good for fourth among all ACC players. Truitt Sunderland is tied for 19th nationally with three man-up goals and Chase Band is 22nd in shooting percentage (45.5). 

ON THE HORIZON 

  • The Cavaliers are away from competition for only one day before hosting Dartmouth on Monday (March 23). 
  • Opening faceoff from Klöckner Stadium is set for 7 p.m. on ACC Network. 
  • The Big Green open Ivy-League on Friday (March 20) at No. 4 Harvard in Cambridge, Mass. 
  • Virginia is looking for its second top-10 win of the year. The Cavaliers defeated then No. 5 Notre Dame earlier this season
  • Junior midfielder Kate Galica scored a career-high five goals in the victory against Princeton. She followed that up with three goals against Clemson
  • Galica has scored at least one goal in each of the last seven games and at least a hat trick in each of the last three
  • Galica is third in the ACC and 21st in the NCAA in draws per game (8.00). She has won double-digit draws in three of the last five games
  • Junior attacker Madison Alaimo had four assists in each of the last three games
  • Alaimo ranks ninth in the nation in assists per game (2.90)
  • Virginia ranks third in the nation in clearing percentage (.956, 153-160) The Cavaliers were 11-of-11 against Princeton and 16-of-16 against Clemson, for a perfect 27-of-27 on the week
  • Syracuse leads the all-time series, 17-13, and has won the last four meetings
  • Virginia is celebrating the 50th Anniversary of its first varsity women's lacrosse game this weekend. UVA hosted William & Mary on March 19, 1976, in its first-ever contest, falling against the Tribe 10-7
  • Players from across the last 50 years have been invited back this weekend to celebrate the anniversary. Those in attendance at Saturday’s game will be recognized in a halftime ceremony on the field
