The McCue Center

Named after Dr. Frank C McCue III, the McCue Center was dedicated September 14, 1991 and serves not only the University of Virginia’s Student Athletes and Athletic Departments, but also the Charlottesville community and surrounding populations. With a total cost of over 10 million dollars, the McCue Center boasts its state-of-the-art, 7000 square-foot Athletic Training Clinic and 8000 square-foot Weight Room.

First Floor: Sports Medicine and Athletic Training Facilities, McCue Weight Room, and the Football Locker Room

Second Floor: Conference and team meeting rooms, football coaches’ offices, and academic support staff

Third Floor: Offices for much of UVA’s varsity coaching staff, along with administrative and support staff

Sports Medicine/Athletic Training Clinic

Located on the first floor of the McCue Center, the Athletic Training Clinic is 7000 square feet, divided into different areas for rehabilitation, evaluation, taping, hydrotherapy, and a separate room for Physician’s Exams where minor surgery can be performed. This space was extensively rennovated during the summer of 2007 and equipped with a Hydroworx 1200 adjustable-depth, underwater treadmill (measuring 10’x40′) cold tank equipped for wireless red cord system. Equally as impressive, the rehabilitation area offers modern equipment designed to assess and rehabilitate sports related injuries with the aid of multiple pieces of cardiovascular equipment. Along the periphery of the Athletic Training Clinic lies a conference room, multiple offices for staff Athletic Trainers, Graduate Assistants, and Student Athletic Trainers.


Sports Medicine Clinic at Fontaine

Located at the Fontaine Research Park, the UVA Sports Medicine Clinic offers service to a wide range of athletic populations. Orthopaedic specialists are leaders in providing care for all levels of athletes including UVA Cavaliers and offer a variety of services for knees, shoulders, hips and more.


John Paul Jones Arena Athletic Training Room

Opened in the fall of 2006, the John Paul Jones Arena Athletic Training Room is home to both the Men’s and Women’s Basketball teams. Located on the bottom floor of the JPJ Arena, the 2,000 square foot facility features a medical exam room, staff offices, and a hydrotherapy room. The facility has a portable xray machine in the exam room; the hydrotherapy room has both HydroWorx, PolarPlunge, and HydroWorx, ThermalPlunge, pools and a HydroWorx, 1000 underwater treadmill pool.


The University Hall Athletic Training Room

Since opening in Fall 2005, the University Hall Athletic Training Room has provided another fully functioning 7000 square foot facility devoted to evaluation, rehabilitation, injury prevention, and the general medical care of varsity student athletes. It is located on the east side of University Hall, adjacent to the Astroturf field. Examination suites for general medicine and orthopedics provide team physicians with facilities for evaluating ill and injured athletes. In addition, the treatment and rehabilitation area is equipped with the leading edge treatment modalities and rehabilitation equipment. A 7 1/2′ x 7 1/2′ HydroWorx, PolarPlunge, pool provides a recovery environment for several athletes simultaneously, maintaining a water temperature af approximately 50, F. The University Hall Athletic Training Room is equipped for wireless internet access to allow faculty and staff to use several media for education and documentation while providing hands-on care.


Weight Rooms

The University of Virginia boasts three weight rooms for Student Athletes. The McCue weight room, most recently renovated in 2004, is located adjacent to the Athletic Training Clinic on the first floor of the McCue Center. It is 8000 square feet and serves as the home to the UVA football team. The University Hall weight room and Onesty Hall weight room serve all of the Olympic sports at UVA. Both of these weight rooms are connected to the McCue Center. The JPJ weight room for Men’s and Women’s Basketball features state-of-the-art weightlifting and cardio equipment.
