Prevention of injuries, including heat illnesses, is a major concern of the Virginia Athletics Sports Medicine department. To ensure that the football team has adequate water and Gatorade available to rehydrate during practices and games, the department employs “hydration specialists” per semester. These individuals arrive 45 minutes before practice to set up the field, and then break down the field at the end of practice. During practice, each member of the water crew remains with a position coach and his players, and is responsible for the hydration of those players
For practice coverage during the season, hydration specialists work Monday through Thursday, for 3-4 hours each afternoon. Two of the staff assist the sports medicine staff on the sidelines during each game, including travel to road games.
Compensation includes hourly wages, Nike gear, and travel with the team to away games. The job requires the ability to lift objects of up to 50 pounds in weight. We are seeking motivated, professional, dependable individuals with a strong work ethic to fill these positions.
